Learning in a changing world is a series of five books prepared by ALIA and ASLA and published by ACER to support teacher librarians and school libraries in the 21st century. This series will be the focus for professional learning during 2012

August 29- September 7 Online forum: 2012 National standards for teacher-librarians

The second online forum for 2012 will focus on how teacher-librarians can demonstrate that they are meeting the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership’s (AITSL) National Professional Standards for Teachers. Each weekday for the duration of the forum, a different standard shall be highlighted and participants invited to share examples of their practice that illustrate how they are currently meeting the standard and reflect on what else they could do in the future.

Learning in a changing world is a series of five books prepared by ALIA and ASLA, which was published by ACER to support teacher librarians and school libraries in the 21st century. This series is the focus for ALIA Schools professional learning during 2012.

This is a morning seminar for primary and secondary teacher librarians and others who are responsible for school library services and/or engaging students in 21st century learning environments. Judy O’Connell, co-author of Connect, communicate, collaborate and Virtual worlds will unpack her two books from this series through lectures, a discussion and a hands on workshop.

August 27- September 11 Online forum: Positives, perils and pitfalls of eBooks and eReaders

This year our online forum is titled: Positives, perils and pitfalls of eBooks and eReaders. This is a result of a half day seminar held in March and repeated in August of this year. Participants were keen to continue their discussion on this intriguing topic. To aid the discussion ALIA Schools has set up a wiki page. You are cordially invited to join this wiki and actively engaging in the dialogue. Kerrie Smith, who was the keynote speaker, has indicated that she would be happy to join the discussion too, as well as many of the guest speaker who were on the panel.

October 22 - Seminar: ARM(E) yourself with strategies for best practice: accountability, reflection, maximizing effectiveness

This is a morning seminar for primary and secondary teacher librarians, and others who are responsible for providing school library services:

  • How do we ensure that we meet the standards required by the V.I.T.?
  • What can we do to become an essential part of learning and education for now and in the future?

A morning seminar for primary & secondary teacher-librarians with an interest in collection development: budgeting, policy and evaluation for both digital and print resources. The focus was on how to get value for the dwindling dollar and how to assess and evaluate what to purchase.
